Akhnif Men's Cape
Very Original!
Cape= 90"L X 47"W
Hood= 13" X 13"
This rare men's cape is one of the most spectacular weavings in Morocco. It is hand woven from 100% wool by the Ait Ouaouzguite, Amazigh (Berber) women in eastern end of the Siroua (Sirwa) Mountains, Anti-Atlas Mountain Chain. This area is linked to the High Atlas by the Siroua Mount, a volcanic peak rising to 10,840 feet (3,304 metres)
This cape is also called "Akhnif". It has two major sections with embroidered designs, the first is the black decorated with Berber motifs that refer to Berber tattoos and symbols. The second section is the red one with the shape of an eye. The motif in the middle of the blue section refers to a lizard. The whole image of the eye (watches after the person) and the lizard (its sharp tongue pierces evil) symbolizes protection for the person wearing this cape against the evil eye and harm. The image to the right is just to give you an idea about how capes are worn.
